User roles

Each registered user has been assigned a WordPress “role.” When a user registers, they are assigned the Subscriber role by default.

When you sign in to this web site with a Subscriber (or more capable) role, you will be able to see the Admin bar at the top of your screen. Click on “48th Museum” on the left side of this bar to see some of the WordPress Admin area.

Subscribers

Subscriber is the most basic user role. Subscribers can only read pages which usually are not visible to the public.

Contributors

A user must have at least “Contributor” authority to create or edit anything on the web site. On this web site, Contributors can upload media files but they cannot edit the media file once it it uploaded.

Authors

Authors can write, edit, publish, and delete artifact records they created. They can also upload files . But they are not able to edit other users’ posts or pages.

Editors

An editor has more access to each data record, with the ability to edit, publish, and delete records and pages. They can manage categories, links, and comments.

Editors mostly oversee content and not website management.

Administrators

Administrators (admins) have access to all parts of a website. They have all the permissions of the previous roles.

Administrators manage the website and can switch themes and add plugins. Admins can also manage users and edit them.

Change your user profile

Once you have signed in, click on “48th Museum” on the Admin Bar then select “Dashboard” then “Profile.” Here you can change the following:

  1. Your e-mail address.
  2. Your password.
  3. Your name and nickname.

Change your password without signing in

Click login then follow the lost password prompt.
