Cemeteries
This page is designed to help you find cemeteries near your location. It also enables visitors to a cemetery to visit all of the Highlanders buried in that location. We can make no greater tribute to our fallen than paying our respects where they rest.
This page includes all of the cemeteries in which our World War fallen are commemorated by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC). You can:
- Create a list of all cemeteries in a country then click/press the name of the cemetery, or
- Enter a search term to find a particular cemetery or Highlander, or
- Generate a map showing the cemeteries in an area you select.
For each cemetery the names of all of our fallen will be displayed together with:
- detailed grave / panel references
- a map and driving instructions to that cemetery and
- a link to the CWGC page for that cemetery. The CWGC site includes detailed location information and, in many cases, photos and some historical context.

Map
You can use the map below to find cemeteries and memorials near you. Our fallen are commemorated in and on 238 cemeteries and memorials. By default the map below shows all of these.
Start by selecting a country. Some countries are listed twice – once for WW 1 and once for WW 2. So if you want to see all cemeteries in Canada you must select Canada under both the WW 1 and WW 2 lists.
172 cemeteries contain 3 or fewer heros. If you wish to exclude cemeteries with very few fallen or display just the largest, you can filter the list by entering the minimum and maximum numbers of names in a cemetery. These numbers refer to the number of Highlanders in a cemetery NOT the numbers of war dead in a cemetery. (The Menin Gate lists 259 names of 15th Bn CEF fallen.)
