This officer had six years experience in the Canadian Militia before3 joining the First Canadian Division of the Overseas Expeditionary Force. Besides a good Military education he is an officer of quick perception, and on various occasions has been able to assume command of a situation at a critical moment. Has always been popular with his men besides being a good disciplinarian and has proved in all branches of his work one of the most efficient officer, and exceptionally capable in the trenches. The commanding officer has relied largely on his experience when in the line, and he has always maintained a cool and calculating grasp of a difficult situation, never overlooking the slightest detail. In several minor engagements he has demonstrated being to any emergency and never overlooks the necessity of co-operation. Major Malone led the attack on the 3rd of June 1916 at Sorrel Hill, and in this engagement led his men forward with extraordinary coolness under a withering barrage of shrapnel, and not only attained the objective but his observations and information were of immense value to Battalion the right and left. He has already ben recommended for hours for his part in this attaack. Major Malone is a painstaking courageous and willing officer, now second in Command of the 15th Canadian Battalion.
