Commanding Officer 48th Highlanders of Canada 1995 – 1999
Lieutenant Colonel Ian A.G. Cameron was born in Toronto in November of 1956 and was educated at Appleby College in Oakville, Ontario where he was first introduced to the Military. During his seven years at Appleby, he served in various capacities in the Appleby College (#440) Cadet Corps. In his final year at Appleby, he was the Cadet Commanding Officer. During that year, the Appleby Cadet Corps placed “First” in the classification of all Cadet Corps across Ontario.
Upon graduation from Appleby, he attended Concordia University (Loyola Campus) in Montreal, Quebec where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. During his second year at Concordia, he joined The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada where he took his commission and rose to the rank of Lieutenant.
In the fall of 1980, Lieutenant Colonel Cameron moved to Toronto with the Toronto-Dominion Bank. He transferred from The Black Watch to the 48th Highlanders of Canada where he served in various capacities from Platoon Commander to Commanding Officer.
In civilian life, LCol Cameron had an interesting Career Path. He spent 15 years in the Financial Services vertical (TD Bank, Canada Trust and others). He then moved into the Media Vertical for 20 years working for Dow Jones, Reuters (which moved him to the US) and ultimately was the Vice President of Photos for the Associated Press in NYC. His last 10 years before retiring was spent working for an Italian software company in the Artificial Intelligence space specifically addressing the Media vertical. He is retired now and living in Fontainebleau, France with his wife (Laurence) and daughter (Margaux). His other daughters, Leigh and Megan, are living in Canada.
