Sgt H.E. Cooper in Sicily 1943

Sgt H.E. Cooper – July1943

Fashions for Men, 1943

Airborne insects with a bite were of greater concern to Sgt. H.E. Cooper, Toronto, of the 48th Highlanders of Canada, shown here, when King’s Regulations (Canada) which declare that all chins and faces will be shaved. What the sergeant-major said was not recorded.

Sgt Cooper is wearing the uniform in which he landed at Pachino on 10 July. The convoy ship carrying personal gear and additional uniforms had been sunk in the Mediterranean. Sgt Cooper’s unorthodox netting covering the back of his neck was essential in the 40C heat of Sicily. P1458
