Education visits and school tours
Bring your class or group to the 48th Highlanders Museum for an engaging, story-driven look at Canadian service — from the Regiment’s founding through the World Wars and beyond.
Visits are led by knowledgeable volunteers and can be guided, self-guided, or a mix—whatever best fits your students and your schedule.
Using our Digital Guided Tour requires the installed app.

Visit options
You can run your visit in several ways—guided, self-guided, or a combination. Many teachers use our Museum Tour app to give students structure while still letting them move independently.
Option A — Volunteer-Led Guided Tour
A volunteer leads your group through key stories and artifacts, with time for questions and discussion. This is the best choice when you want a single shared experience for the whole class.
Option B — Self-Guided Visit (Teacher-Led Activity)
Students explore at their own pace while you use your own worksheet, scavenger hunt, or discussion prompts. This works especially well for rotating groups or independent learning.
Option C — Guided + Self-Guided (Recommended for most classes)
Start with a short guided introduction, then let students explore independently in small groups. This approach gives students structure and time to discover what interests them most.
Option D — Teacher-Curated Self-Guided Tour (Using the Museum Tour App)
This is the “best of both worlds” option: you choose the tour focus, and students follow it independently.
How it works:
The teacher/leader decides the theme (for example WWI, WWII, or other topics).
Students install the Museum Tour app on their own phones/tablets (or use classroom devices).
Students then follow the tour display-to-display for a self-guided walk-around, with clear navigation and the ability to read more deeply at each stop.
This option is ideal when you want students moving in small groups, staying on-task, and still getting a consistent learning experience.
Tip
You can combine this with a short volunteer-led introduction or wrap-up discussion.
