George Edward VanKoughnett enrolled with the 48th Highlanders Militia (reserve) battalion on 25 April 1932. The Entry shows he was born in Kingston on 6 April 1918. That was just after his 14th birthday. The second entry was 31 October 1932 and it shows he was taken on strength (TOS), while still 14.

This suggests that when he enrolled the battalion said he was too young. However, in those years you could enrol below the age of 16 with a letter from your parents giving their permission. We suspect that this was the case.
