22 year old 77522 Sergeant Christopher Wilbur Greer and 24 year old 77482 Private Alexander James Waddell were both ranchers when they attested into the 30th Battalion on November 5, 1914 in Victoria, BC. Greer was originally from Woodstock, ON while Waddell was originally from Greenock, Scotland and previous service in the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders as well as the 102nd Regiment (Rocky Mountain Rangers) of the Canadian Militia. Both men arrived at the 15th Battalion as reinforcements on May 5, 1915 and were both posted to No. 3 Company. They served at Festubert later that same month and later in the Fall 1915-Winter/Spring trench tours in the in the Ploegsteert-Hill 60 sectors. Both Sergeants were KIA by the explosion of a German minenwerfer shell on June 27, 1916 while the battalion was subjected to heavy artillery and mortar fire in the line near Hill 60, Belgium and are buried in Railway Dugouts Cemetery.
