Rosborough, Pte Robert

Robert Rosborough enlisted on 8 October 1943 and was assigned the service number A108468. This is a MD #3 area. He listed his religion as Presbyterian and date of birth as 04 August 1925. Our first record shows Pte Rosborough being Taken On Strength by the 1st Battalion, 48th Highlanders on 7 January 1945 from the X-4 List of the Lorne Scots. ( He may have been with the Lorne Scots since enlisting.)  (X-4 list is soldiers available for reinforcement). He was qualified as Driver I/C (Wheel).

Pte Rosborough was assigned to D Company. At the time the 48th Highlanders were between the Lamone and Senio rivers in northern Italy, holding the Senio line and conducting raiding patrols into the German lines. In early February the battalion moved to the Ravenna Marshes and then, on 20 February, began their move with the 1st Canadian Division to the west coast of Italy south of Genoa. On 7 March, Pte Rosborough, as part of the advance party, embarked from Leghorn, Italy and disembarked on the 9th in Marseille France. The 1st Cdn Division would travel across France to billets in Belgium, then the Reichswald Forest in preparation for the final liberation of the Netherlands. On 26 March, Pte Rosborough became sick and was Struck Off Strength to the battalion’s X-3 List (hospital). Following recovery he was placed on the X-4 list on 18 July 1945.
