Pte Virag, John Wendel

Virag, John Wendel, SINXXXXXX was with the 48th Highlanders from 15 May 70 to 28 Nov 71 when he transferred to the Regular force, Princess Patricia’ Own Regiment.

” I transferred to the Regular Force in November 1971 and started basic training in Cornwallis in January 1972. My training with the 48th helped me succeed and I was awarded the Commandant’s Shield for my course. Off to CFS Gloucester then CFB Kingston for my basic trades training as Communications Research (MOC 291) operator (Now Signals Intelligence Specialist). Subsequent postings to CFS Leitrim, CFS Masset and 770 Comm Rsch Sqn with 4 side trips to CFS Alert. Released in 1989 as a Warrant Officer and transferred to the public service. Retired in 2010, but returned to work part time shortly after and still working periodically.

 

I started piping while posted to Australia in 2007 with the City of Queanbeyan Pipe Band. On return to Ottawa in 2009, joined the Sons of Scotland Pipe Band and later the Kemptville Legion Pipe Band. in 2016, joined the RCMP Pipe Band and remain with them as a piper and a board member.”
