Private Stevens although twice wounded refused to leave the line until he was compelled to through exhaustion for one of food and from loss of blood. When compelled to go to the dressing station he volunteered to carry a message to battalion headquarters. On his way to battalion headquarters he discovered two un-wounded Huns in a dugout, whom he at once took charge of and escorted them to be Battalion headquarters where he handed over his prisoners and delivered this message. After completing this Duty he started to the dressing station but I’m going to exhaustion he fainted and was found by other members of the battalion and taken back to the dressing station in a serious condition.
The above services were rendered during the attack on Regina Trench, north of Courcelette  on September 26, 1916.
