77746 Private Charles Mortimer Rendell

Pte RENDELL, Charles Mortimer

77746 Private Charles Mortimer Rendell was a 46 year old prospector originally from St. Charles, Newfoundland with pre-war Militia service in the 102nd Regiment (Rocky Mountain Rifles) when he attested into the 30th Battalion at Victoria BC in November 1914. He was part of a very large reinforcing draft sent to the 15th Battalion shortly after 2nd Ypres on May 3rd 1915. He served in No. 1 Company at Festubert later that month and at Givenchy in early June as well as the string of trench tours in July and August near Hill 63 in the Ploegsteert sector of the Ypres salient.

During the August 15-19 trench tour Private Rendell was wounded in the chest by shrapnel on August 18. He was evacuated to No. 3 Canadian Field Ambulance and from there to No. 3 Casualty Clearing Station where he died of his wounds on August 19, 1915.
