Pte REA, Ross

464630 Private Ross Rea was a 26 year fruit farmer old originally from Kingston, ON when he attested into the 62nd Battalion in January 1916 in Vancouver, BC. He was transferred to the 7th Battalion in France in May 1916 but reassigned to the 15th Battalion a month later in June as a reinforcement following Observatory ridge/Mount Sorrel.  He served in No. 1 Company during the June – July trench tours at Hill 60 and during the August 1-5 tour at The Bluff.  His company was occupying trench 31 when on August 5th the enemy detonated a mine on the edge of The Crater Post and during the shelling of the  rest of the line, Private Rea was killed in action. He is buried in Railway Dugouts Burial Ground.
