Three Owen brothers – 437643 James, 437644 Iorweth and 437645 Cecil attested into the 51st Battalion and were all sent as reinforcements to the 15th Battalion (48th Highlanders) and taken on strength 9-6-1916 and all were posted to No. 1 Company.
James was wounded on the Somme during the battle of Thiepval ridge when the battalion assaulted Regina Trench on 26 Sept 1916. He was medically evacuated to the UK and struck off strength.
Iorweth died of wounds received in the same engagement and is buried in Contay British Cemetery.
Cecil survived the engagement, was wounded at Hill 70 in August 1917,was transferred to Battalion HQ Transport Section and served with the battalion for the duration of the war.
