437277 Private Sam Norman and 437946 Private William Turner both came from the 51st Battalion to the 15th Battalion on June 6, 1916 as reinforcements following the battle for Observatory ridge. Norman was assigned to No. 1 Company and Turner went to No. 4 Company.
Private Sam Norman was a 42 year old railway worker originally from Norway and Private William Turner was a 29 year old farmer originally from Yorkshire when they attested into the 51st Battalion in 1915 at Edmonton, AB. Their time with the 15th Battalion was regrettably very short as both men were KIA on June 24, 1916 when the unit was in the line near Hill 60. Norman was killed by a GSW to the head and Turner died from a shrapnel wound to the chest. Both men are buried at railway Dugouts Cemetery
