Enlisted, age 25, with the 48th Highlanders on 14 May 1902 and was assigned to F Company. Was part of the F Company shooting team that won the Marguerite Tyro Trophy in 1902, a shooting competition within the Regiment. He resigned 1 April 1904.

Born in Scotland and came to Canada in 1901. Born and raised in Ullapool, Ross and Cromartyshire
