Private William McInerney was 34 year old CPR railway brakeman originally from Hampton, NB but living in Revelstoke, BC where he had three years pre –war Militia service in 102nd Regiment (Rocky Mountain Rangers) when he attested into the 30th Battalion (BC) at Victoria in November 1914. He arrived at the 15th Battalion in early May 1915 as part of a very large draft of reinforcements from the 30 Battalion following 2nd Ypres in April. He was posted to the Machine Gun Section and served at Festubert later that same month when he was wounded in action. Following a brief recovery period in hospital, he rejoined the battalion in June in time for the battle of Mount Sorrel and the trench tours at Givenchy. He took part in the long stretch of trench tours from July to December in the Ypres salient at Ploegsteert, Hill 63 and the Messines Road. On December 28th during the last trench tour on the Messines Road in trenches 138-142 before the battalion rotated out-of-the-line for Christmas, Private McInerney was killed in action by fragments from a HE artillery shell.
