Pte LAMB, Robert Henry

47877 Private Robert Henry Lamb was a 35 year old textile worker originally from Leeds, Yorkshire when he attested into the 37th Battalion in May 1915 at Niagara Camp. He was sent as a reinforcement to the 15th Battalion in France in July 1915 and assigned to No. 3 Company.  Private Lamb served in the July trench tours at Ploegsteert, the August tour at Hill 63, the long stretch of tours on Messines Road from September to December 1915 and January to March 1916 and all the tours at Hill 60 in April, May, June and July at Hill 60 as well as at Observatory ridge/Mount Sorrel on June 3rd.

On August 6, 1916 No. 3 Company was occupying trenches Pollock, Bean, New International and Forest when the battalion was heavily shelled following the detonation of German mine at Crater Post. Private Lamb was killed in action and buried at Railway Dugouts Burial Ground.
