CSM HAWKINS, William Andrew

56144 CSM Hawkins, William Andrew (birth name Hockin)

As a member of the 48th Highlanders he was part of the rifle team for several years and won the coveted 1913 King’s Prize at Bisley as the best shot in the British Empire.
Documents show that he rose to the rank of Company Sergeant Major.

Wounded in 1915 during his first tour with the 19th Battalion. (see service record)
Healed and returned for a second tour with the 134th Battalion 48th Highlanders. ( along with Scott Penny’s Great Great Grandfather John Baden Powell who also served in the 134th)
