Pte GOUGH, PERCY JAMES

22569 Private Percy James Gough was a 22 year old shoemaker from Fredericton, NB when he attested into the 12th Battalion at Valcartier in September 1914. Although part of the 1st Contingent, the 12th Battalion did embark for France in February 1915 and remained in the UK becoming the 12th Reserve Battalion. Private Gough was part of a reinforcement draft sent to the 15th Battalion in July 1915 and he was assigned to No. 1 Company. He was with the battalion in the Ploegsteert-Hill 60 area during the fall, winter and spring of 1915-1916. Private Gough was another one of the casualties from the action at International Trench near Hill 60 when on April 28th he suffered a serious GSW to the head.  He was evacuated on HMS Aberdonian to The Horton, County of London War Hospital in Epsom, Surrey where he died of his wounds on May 7, 1916. Private Gough is buried in Epsom Cemetery, Surrey and he is commemorated on the Cenotaph in Fredericton, NB.
