Norman Gogo enlisted with the 48th Highlanders prior to 1939. When war was declared Norm was working at the T. Eaton Company and upon receiving a telephone call from the regiment informing him that war had been declared and all those in the regiment wishing to enlist for overseas duty should do so immediately. Norm promptly left work to report for duty. Norm went overseas with the 1st Battalion, 48th Highlanders, embarking on the Reina del Pacifico on 18 December 1939. While in England Norm transferred to the Royal Canadian Service Corps and participated in the D-Day landings on Juno beach in 1944. Upon returning to Canada at the end of the war Norm became a member of the 48th Highlanders Old Comrades until his death at the age of 102. He was Chief of Alarms for the Toronto Fire Department.
