CQMS FRASER, William Roderick (Bronze Cross)

B72989 Fraser, William Roderick went overseas as a Private with the 1st Battalion, departing Toronto 17 Dec 1943 by train for Halifax; boarded Reina del Pacifico for convoy to England. Was with 1st Battalion in England, Sicily, Italy and The Netherlands. Renowned for his moustache and the organization, at his own initiative,  of many night dances in England for members of the battalion using the Transport Platoon’s activities as a cover. Landed in Sicily with the 1st Battalion on 10 July 1943, was promoted Corporal prior to Torella (near Campobasso) in Italy and was a permanent member of Padre Captain Steward East’s choir. Promoted CQMS (Company Quartermaster Sergeant) prior to 7 September 1944. Awarded the Bronze Cross by The Netherlands.
