Pte FEMOGLIO, Joseph

  • He was 21 years of age when attested into the CEF at Toronto, Canada on 13 Feb 1918
  • The 48th Highlanders had conducted a recruiting drive in Chicago in July 1917 so I suspect he may have seen the events and as a result, decided to enlist
  • He was initially assigned to the 1st Central Ontario regiment for basic training in Camp Borden before being sent in the 3rd Draft from that unit to the 12 Reserve Battalion which was a holding unit in the Uk which sent reinforcements when required by units fighting in France/Belgium
  • He was sent as a reinforcement to the 15th Battalion (48th Highlanders) arriving on 22 Aug 1918 and was assigned to No. 3 Company
  • He would have taken part in the battle of the Drocourt-Queant Line 1-2 Sept 1918 and the battle of the Canal du Nord on 26-27 Sept 1918
  • During the latter battle he was initially reported as MIA but subsequently was reported wounded and medically evacuated to the UK with a Gun Shot Wound to the left leg
  • He was Struck off Strength of the 15th Battalion on 2 Oct 1918 and attached to the 1st Central Ontario Regiment Depot while undergoing medical treatment
  • On 23 Mar 1919 he was repatriated to Canada and demobilized
