Pte EDGAR, Thomas

Private Thomas Edgar was 21 year old ironworker originally from Cumberland, England was living in Seaforth, Ontario when he attested into the 37th Battalion at Niagara camp in May 1915. He was part of the 250 man 1st Reinforcement draft from the 37th Battalion that was sent to the UK in June onboard the SS Hesperian. In the UK he was sent to the 17th Reserve Battalion and from there he was sent as a reinforcement to the 15th Battalion on August 7, 1915. Private Edgar served in No. 3 Company in the 1915 trench tours at Wulverghem and Hill 63 in August and on the Messines Road from the September to December. On January 11, 1916 while the battalion was back on Messines Road in trenches 138-142, he was killed in action by an HE artillery shell.
