LSgt DUNCAN, George Ford

192926 Private George Ford Duncan was a 32 year old plumber originally from Newcastle-on-Tyne, England living on Pape Avenue in Toronto when attested into the 92nd Battalion in August 1915 where rose to the rank of Lance Sergeant.  In order to get to the front, he reverted to the rank of Private in the UK and was sent as reinforcement to No. 3 Company of the 15th Battalion following Passchendaele in November 1917.

In April 1918 the battalion was in the Gavrelle sector  near Arras  as part of the defensive reaction to the large German spring offensive.  – Operation Michael – that was threatening the British line . At 11:45 AM on April 29, 1918 Private Duncan was providing security on a Lewis Gun post when he was killed in action by a mortar round suffering multiple body wounds from shrapnel . He is buried in Roclincourt Military Cemetery.
