Pte BARKER, Cecil Clifford

NOK: Rosa Mary Baker (Mother) at St John Street, Cambridge

Pte Barker was born in Cambridge, England, UK, on January 30, 1890, and worked as chef before joining the regiment on January 12, 1915. Pte Barker was injured while overseas with medical documents record him as: “was blown up and buried at Pleogstreete 15-11-15. Went to Bailleul then to Boulogne Nov: 20th/15, then to Bevan Mil. Hosp. Sandgate 28-11-15.”. He continued recovering in various hospitals in England before returning back to Canada on January 2, 1917. He was finally officially discharged at a military hospital in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on May 31, 1917 due to ‘shell shock’.

Pleogstreete is opposite to Mesen(Messine), and was part of the Flanders region and Ypres Salient. Noted as marrying Mrs. Elizabeth Barker after the war and they lived together in Montreal.
