PTE. BALL, HARVEY PERCY

Following the assault on Assoro, Sicily on 19/20 July, the 48th, on the night of the 22nd, were moving, well spaced out in good combat formation, in the dark across the five mile stretch of rugged country toward the main Adrano road. They had halted in a form-up position 1 1/2 miles from the road crossing when German artillery found them.
