Private WHEELER, THOMAS J. A.

27969 Private Thomas Joseph Wheeler, originally from Picton, Ontario, was 29 year old plumber with pre-war service in the 9th Field Battery when he attested into the 15th Battalion at Valcartier in September 1914. He was in No. 3 Company at 2nd Ypres in April 1915 and although wounded, he survived the battle and was treated at an Australian Field Hospital in Wimereux. He returned to the battalion in spring 1916 at Ploegsteert  but was killed in action by a rifle grenade in the same engagement at International Trench near Hill 60 in which Privates William Russell and John Sinclair had been killed two days earlier on 27 April.
