Private JACKSON, CHARLES ROWLAND

27566 Private Charles Rowland Jackson was 24 year old wire drawer originally from New York when he attested into the 15th Battalion at Valcartier in September 1914.

He was serving in No. 3 Company at 2nd Ypres in April 1915 when he was initially reported as Missing in Action. He returned safely to the battalion and served at Festubert in May before being attach posted to 1st Division Headquarters in December. He returned briefly to the battalion in July 1916 before being attach posted to 3rd Brigade Transport in August.

While on the Somme in the Fall of 1916 he contracted dysentery and was evacuated to the UK for medical treatment. Despite treatment in several facilities his condition deteriorated and on June 17, 1917 he died of nephritis at King’s Canadian Red Cross Hospital, Epsom. Private Jackson is buried in Manchester (Phillips Park) Cemetery.

NOK: Son of Charles R. Jackson, of 29, Humberside Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, and the late Alice Jackson (nee Dyson).
