Private HUNTER, ARCHIBALD CHALMERS

27485 Private Archibald Chalmers Hunter was a 29 year old plumber originally from Edinburgh, Scotland with previous service in The Royal Scots when he attested into the 15th Battalion at Valcartier in September 1914.  He was serving in No. 4 Company at St Julian in April 1915 when he was gassed and evacuated to the UK. He was treated at a number of medical facilities during which time he was put on strength of a number of Reserve Battalions – 17th, 92nd and 5th – before eventually being discharged in November 1917 and posted to the 8th Canadian Area Employment Company in France.

In April 1918, Private Hunter suffered a hand injury which became septic and he was evacuated to the UK for treatment.  Unfortunately with his lungs already weakened by the gas wounds, he developed pneumonia and died in Epsom Hospital on June 24, 1918. Private Hunter is buried in Epsom Cemetery.
