Awarded while serving with the 4th Battalion, CEF

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This officer guided the battalion through a dense mist, enabling it to reach its position intact and on time. Later, he guided the left company in its attack on enemy machine-gun nests along a river bank, being wounded in the final successful assault. After having his wound dressed at the
RA.P., he returned to the firing line in time to lead his men up to a ridge, where he was again wounded. His conduct and daring throughout were admirable.
