Lt Bob Moncur - 2nd Bn 1940

Lieutenant Robert M. N. Moncur

Lieutenant R. M. N. (Bob) Moncur joined the 2nd Battalion, 48th Highlanders in Toronto and is shown in a 1940 newspaper article as one of the 52 officers of the 2nd Battalion who were training for service in the Second World War. He was sent to England to join the 1st Battalion and was transferred in England from the Holding Unit in March 1942. Moncur was a platoon officer in Baker Company when the battalion sailed in June 1943 for the landings in Sicily. He was wounded in the leg at an ambush at “The Crossroads” on the advance from Assoro to Nissoria in Sicily on 23 July, 1943.
