George Douglas Adams

Sergeant ADAMS, GEORGE DOUGLAS

In the advance north of Rimini, chasing the Germans 39 Km from 10 Oct for a total of 33 days. On the night of 14-15 October Capt. George Fraser asked for anti-tank support. ‘”I need Adams’ boys” meant Sgt Porky Adams of the anti-tank platoon. Two veteran sergeants, George Adams, a member of the regimental boxing team in England, and a gallant man, and Bob Shaw who had won the Military Medal in the Liri Valley, came up to look over possible sites. As the two N.C.O.s left to return by a supposedly safe stretch of road, a mine exploded under their feet. One died instantly, the other a few moments later.’ Dileas page 679.
