Lance Sergeant John Thomas Wright

Awarded: 20-Mar-17

During a Raid on the enemy trenches in the Colonne Section on March 2nd, 1917, this NCO was in charge of a party on the left flank.  In crossing No Mans Land he was wounded in the shoulder but insisted in carrying out his duties.  On entering the enemy trench he superintended the erection of a block communications trench ast the same time bombing several occupied dugouts.  He was the last of his party to leave the enemy trench and for two and one half hours searched No Mans Land under heavy Machine Gun Fire to look for wounded comrades whose return at that time was doubtful.  He refused to have his wound dressed until he returned to our lines.  His courage, endurance and devotion to duty was magnificent inspiration to his men.
