CSM (WO2) Watson JL, DCM MM

John Lawrence Watson was an original member of 15th Battalion (48th Highlander).

Decorated for his bravery during the Battle of VIMY RIDGE on 9-Apr-17,  he was promoted and appointed Sgt-Mjr No 3 Coy in December 1917.

Attack of 9 April 1917 South of Thelus

This man’s section was held up by machine-gun fire in the attack.  He quickly organized a flanking attack upon the MG emplacement and through his section suffered many casualties, he captured the MG and bayoneted the men who were operating the gun.

All through the attack he displayed the greatest coolness and daring.

LG 21011 dated 18-N0v-18

This WO led his men against many machine gun nests with great coolness and dash, his quickness to attack with the bayonet being most remarkable.  Although wounded in the leg he refused to go back until the final objective was gained.
