Provost-Sergeant Candy SJ (Sid)

1st Battalion 48th Highlanders 

1939-1945

An original 39er, Sid Candy landed with the Highlanders at Pacino and was promoted to sergeant before they crowded the Straits of Messina  Later he was appointed as the Regiment’s Provost Sergeant.  He returned home in 1945 and eventually settled in East York  His oldest John was the well-known comedian and actor John Candy. He died suddenly in 1955 on his son’s fifth birthday

Note.  Name is misspelled as “Canday” throughout Dileas.
