Mention in Dispatches (MID)

Lce/Cpl Brown joined the Battalion in September 1915 and since that time has been most faithful in the carrying out of all his duties, and has on several occasions displayed great coolness und the enemy fire.

On the morning of the 24th February 1917 whilst patrolling the Front Line, he encountered 3 Germans, who demanded his surrender, which he refused and at once attacked them single-handed, and fired his Veery Pistol at point blank range into the trio, who fixed and wounded him in the face, but although wounded he continued to engage them and ultimately without assistance drove them from the trench.

L/Cpl Brown’s alertness in the in at once taking in the situation, without doubt was instrumental in frustrating a carefully planned enemy raid.
