Captain Edward Heighington

Captain Edward Nesbitt Heighington

In the area of the Arielli River upper command wanted to capture Germans to develop intelligence about their positions. As the 11th Infantry Brigade was attacking at night on the edge of the Arielli, Captain Heighington led a 9-man standing patrol of his scouts out to a position, code named Aster. A sudden flare from a haystack hit by German shells highlighted Captain Heighington just as a German counter-patrol attacked. In the dark, he was hit by a 42 and killed instantly.
