Carl Andrew Bunn enlisted on 5 October 1942 in Bracebridge, Ontario and was given the service number B133814. He gave his date of birth as 29 Nov 1914 and his religion as Church of England and he was single.
The next entry shows him joining the 1st Battalion, 48th Highlanders on 27 June 1945, assigned to C Company. (His service from enlisting to July 1945 will require his service records.) At this time the battalion had just arrived at Soest, near Apeldoorn, having been in The Hague during May and June as gaolers to the German SS Troops. In Soest many Highlanders were sent home ahead of the battalion and soldiers from other units were assigned to the 48th Highlander, preparing to return to Canada. These soldiers comprised about 2/3 of the battalion. Pte Bunn and the battalion departed NWE on 4 September disembarking on 5 September in the UK. On 7 September Pte Bunn was assigned to No. 4 Canadian Repatriation Depot as the next step to return to Canada and gave his next of kin as his father Roy in Bent River. He may have returned with the 48th Highlanders, arriving in Toronto on 1 October.
It appears that he spent the war period with other unit(s) in the UK and then in Sicily and Italy with the 1st Canadian Division and was with the 48th Highlanders only for the return to Canada.
