Postcard sent home from a German prisoner of war camp, Kriegsgefangenenlager Göttingen in Göttingen, Hannover, Germany, by RSM Lewis E. DeHarte to his wife in Toronto, Canada. RSM Lewis E. DeHarte was a prisoner of war from 1915-1919. The postcard is cardstock and a brown colour, with writing in pencil on both sides of the postcard. The postcard is stamped on the front with an ink stamp by the camp’s German Military Postal Examination Office, a London post office, a pink date stamp that says “25 Okt 1915”, and a mahogany ink stamp on the right side that reads: “Kriegsgefangenensendung Geprüft – F.a.” (meaning prisoner of war mail checked). There is written in pencil on the front in the top centre: “Kriegsgefangenensendung”, right above is printed: “feldpostkarte”, and the front of the card is split in two vertically by a black double line, with the left having sender information, being RSM DeHarte’s,  and the right having receiver information, being his wife’s, with dotted lines on both sides of the divider for writing on.

The back of the card is a blank space and is filled in with writing by RSM DeHarte: “Dear Wife:-     Reced letter from you & was very pliesed to hear that the DeHarte’s are O.K. Nice card from Peggy. Replying nest week. you have never told me how much you get what it costs you to go on or anything that you are doing. Why? Can’t you make something up? Got $5.00 o.k. but none from Red Cross.    xxxxxxxxxxx Love to all Lewis”
