The Cosby Challenge Shield

A 21 inch (53.34 cm) by 22 inch (55.88 cm) trophy, shield shaped wood base with inset silver shield. Engraving reads: The Cosby Memorial Shield. The company making  the highest aggregate score in the Annual General Match. On inner shield, an open wreath of Scottish thistles, open at the top and enclosing a 48th Highlanders badge. Crossed rifles at the bottom. Surrounding the silver shield is a folded stripe in silver on which are engraved the winning companies and years. Also 5 individual small shields, three on the left and two on the right of winning companies and years. Small silver shield at bottom of wooden shield with the inscription “Presented by Mrs. A. Morgan Cosby Oct 1900.” The trophy was presented in 1900 by Mrs. A Morgan Cosby, wife of Lt Col. A. M. Cosby, Commanding Officer from 1898 to 1900. LCol Cosby died on 12 May 1900.
