Note: The Lindsay Memorial medal is an unofficial medal from Gray’s home town of Lindsay, Ontario to commemorate his death. Pte John Welford Gray was killed in a motor accident in England while assigned to the 15th Reserve Battalion (not the 15th Battalion 48th Highlanders) on 4 March 1917. The Lindsay Memorial medal is displayed in the museum together with the British War Medal. Pte Gray had enlisted with the 134th Battalion (48th Highlanders.)

The 15th Reserve Battalion was one of the Reserve Battalions created in the UK to supply reinforcements to front line battalions. It was formed from absorbed battalions mainly from Western Canada (Sask.) and supplied reinforcements to the 5th, 28th and 46th Battalions and 1 CMR. It did not send men to the 15th Battalion (48th Highlanders)
