Portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II from Sergeant’s Mess – 48th Highlanders

 

Official Portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II taken in 2017  by Ian Leslie MacDonald. MacDonald was a 48th Highlander, and became the regiment’s official photographer. The portrait  hung in the WO & Sergeants Mess in Moss Park Armoury.

Colour portrait is in a gold coloured guilt frame 33″ x 32″. The image size is 20″ x 19″  with a green matte of 3 1/2 ” border  around the image.

The portrait, taken in Buckingham Palace,  shows Her Majesty sitting wearing a gold dress  and on Her left shoulder a 48th Highlanders badge, (lozenge pattern from WW2) diamond encrusted,  given to her on her appointment in 1947 as Colonel-in-Chief of the 48th Highlanders of Canada. On Her Majesty’s chair is draped a Davidson Tartan of the 48th Highlanders of Canada. The 48th Highlanders, and two other regiments, were the first appointments as Colonel-in-Chief accepted by Her Majesty on the same date in 1947.
