Her Majesty is standing on a balcony in a white formalgown with pink brocade pattern, tiara and the blue sash of the Order of the Garter. Her Majesty was Colonel-in-Chief of the 48th Highlanders of Canada having accepted the appointment in 1947 when Her Majesty was Princess Elizabeth. The 48th Highlanders, and two other regiments, were the first appointments as Colonel-in-Chief accepted by Her Majesty on the same date in 1947. The portrait hung in the Officers Mess of the 48th Highlanders.
