Officer saluting the fallen at Lamone Cemetery, Italy, 15 Feb 1945

Officer paying respect – Lamone Cemetery Feb 15th, 1945

Funeral Service at Lamone Cemetery, Italy P0592

The 48th Highlanders had crossed the Lamone River on 10 December 1944 after several battalions from 2 brigades had been repulsed. The battalion continued in the Lamone River, Senio River area, pushing the Germans back, until redeployed in mid-February to the Ravenna marshes area. Their last act, on the move from the Lamone/Senio area, was to honour those killed and buried beside the Lamone River. The southern dyke of the Lamone River is in the background.
