Canadians Rest in Sicily

Lieut. J.M.E. Clarkson, Toronto, of the 48th Highlanders of Canada, here follows the course of the remainder of the Sicilian campaign which his Commanding Officer, Lt Col. Ian Johnston, traces for him on a map. The 48th moved into an olive grove for a well-earned rest when Canadian forces were withdrawn from the operation, toward the finish. The olive grove, at Carcaci on the Simeto River, turned out to be a haven for the malaria bearing mosquito, forcing the battalion to relocate at an arid plain at Militello.P1472
