photo wearing glengarry and glasses date of death 15 April 1945; during second phase of Operation Cannonshot. Phase 1 was the crossing on 12 April of the Ijssel River at Wilp and advance to Twello. Phase 2 was the advance to liberate Apeldoorn. Lt. Williams was the last officer of the 48th Highlanders to be killed in action during the war. Leading No. 13 Platoon of Charlie Company Williams made a lone-handed charge on a stubborn machine-post which had caught 2 of his men. He rushed the post hurling grenades as he attacked, throwing the last putting the post out of action as he was killed.
