History of The Royal Regiment of Canada and The 48th Highlanders of Canada
The Royal Regiment of Canada and The 48th Highlanders of Canada are two of the oldest Infantry Regiments in the Canadian Forces. Both Regiments are garrisoned in Toronto, Ontario, and, as such, their two Bands have developed a bond of friendship that has lasted many years. The combination of a brass and reed band playing with the pipes and drums is a unique sound, one that these two bands have developed into an art.
On this recording, you will also hear the voice of Danielle Bourre combined with the talents of M/Cpl Leslie Duff on piccolo to create a beautiful blend of voice with instrument. M/Cpl Duff also adds her artistry to the selections, combined with Pipe Major Sandy Dewar, to create yet another unique blending of sound.
This recording is a collection of both familiar and new melodies that have been performed by these two bands at numerous tattoos in North America over the years. In more recent years, The Band of the Royal Regiment of Canada has performed in Cyprus for the United Nations Forces; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Milwaukee, Wisconsin., for the International Folk Fair; Louvigny, France; and Dieppe, France for the 50th Anniversary celebrations. The Pipes and Drums of the 48th Highlanders of Canada have performed for VE Day Celebrations in Holland; Etes Park, Colorado; Pleasanton, California; Pennsylvania, Glascow, Kentucky; Charleston, South Carolina; Bermuda, and numbers Scottish Festivals throughout North America.
Together, the bands have performed at the Stone Mountain Games Tattoo in Atlanta, Georgia, since 1991. The Royal Military Institute Concert in Toronto’s Roy Thompson Hall since 1990; Fort Ticonderoga, New York; Gander, Newfoundland Tattoo; Summerside, Prince Edward Island. The World Festival Tattoo and Tunes of Glory Tattoo in Toronto; and The Wembley Military Musical Pageant in London, England. Both Bands are often called upon to perform for Heads of State and Royalty, in addition to their military duties in as serving musicians of the Canadian Forces.
