Drum Major, 48th Highlanders of Canada (1997-2020)
Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Chris Reesor was born in Scarborough, Ontario and has lived in Toronto most of his life.Chris Reesor started studying the Drums at age four and started marching in bands at age seven with the 9th Toronto Boys’ Brigade Band. He joined the 48th Military Band as a volunteer in 1988.
After completing six years with the Fort Henry Guard in Kingston, Chris decided to join the Regiment and was sworn in 13-Nov-1990 as a drummer. He was appointed Master Corporal (MCpl) in April, 1997, and officially appointed the Regimental Drum Major in September of the same year.
In May 2003, Chris was promoted to Warrant Officer and in 2018 to Master Warrant Officer (MWO). On 16-Oct-2020 he was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) and appointed Regimental Sergeant Major of the 48th Highlanders of Canada.
During his 33 years of service, he taught on General Military Training Courses (now called Basic Military Qualification), and fornclose to 7 years on full time Class B service working at the Canadian Forces Music Centre Detachment Borden (later to be the Canadian Forces School of Administration and Logistics, M Div) as an instrumental Instructor, course designer, resource and facilities coordinator, Drill Instructor and course director.
He spent a further year in 2004 on full time service as the Operations Warrant Officer at the 48th Highlanders. In 2014 he went on Ex Stalwart Guardian as the Headquarters Sergeant Major for the two-week exercise spending time in the Tactical Operations Centre and backfilling for the RSM when he moved forward. And in 2019, as an MWO, was the exercise RSM for a weeklong Brigade exercise at Fort Drum, NY.
He has been privileged to represent Canada in the Netherlands, Italy, Scotland, England, the USA and Bermuda working with our Allied Regiment and other NATO forces. His extensive experience as the defacto Senior Canadian Army Reserve Drum Major lead to him being the Senior Drum Major for the 2011 and 2012 Virginia International Tattoo’s (in addition to being the Canadian Army contingent OPI) and in Bermuda for the Royal Bermuda Regiment’s 50th Anniversary Tattoo. And again in 2019 was the Contingent OPI and Drum Major for the 4Div Massed P&D to the Virginia Tattoo. He was privileged to represent the Regiment at the funeral of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the Second.
He is the recipient of a Brigade Command Team Commendation for the work he did as a subject matter expert assisting in the creation of the Parade Orders for the Massed 4Div and 32 CBG Remembrance Day parades in Toronto in honour of the 100th anniversary of the WW I Armistice in 2018 and a 4 Division Commanders commendation.
CWO Reesor was promoted to his current rank and appointed as the Regimental SergeantMajor of the 48th Highlanders of Canada on October 16th, 2020.
RSM Reesor was appointed to the Battle School Sergeant Major position on 9 Mar 2024 and works full time at the Brigade Headquarters in the Operations cell.
