Combat Shirt -1970’s

Combat shirt in olive green. Name “Cormack” on left breast pocket and Sergeant’s stripes on arm.

In 1967, the Royal Canadian Army ceased to exist and was replaced with Mobile Command under the Unification scheme which created the modern-day Canadian Armed Forces. With Unification, an American-Style Olive Green Fatigues known as “combats” were adopted. This loose-fitting cotton shirt and pants began to be worn by the Regiment in 1970.

In 1969, a new rank system was adopted with new levels such as Master Corporal and distinctive Canadian Insignia. Name-tags were authorized to be worn on the uniform at the same time.

Combats pushed the process of standardizing and simplifying the uniform to a level of almost pure functionalism, with a minimum of distinction between ranks or regiments in terms of field dress.
